CLARIS AND APPLEWORKS
=Claris is offering a
update to AppleWorks version 2.1 =
;for all owners of AppleWorks version 2.0. Claris wants to 8
6get AppleWorks owners on their data base as a "Claris ;
9Registered User." You will have to send your
original
:AppleWorks Startup/Program disk to Claris. Send
either
;the 3.5" disk or the 5.25" disk. Claris will send you the <
new version on the same size disk. The address to use is:
AppleWorks Update#
Claris Corporation
440 Clyde Ave.(
Mountain View, CA 94043
:All AppleWorks v. 2.0 users should take advantage of this 9
7offer. AppleWorks version 2.1 is an "update" that has ;
9several minor bugs corrected, and one major one that can ;
9clobber data files. As many of you know, AppleWorks can >
<damage some data files if you respond "Yes" to the "Disk is ;
9full. Do you want to delete the earlier version of this )
file?" prompt. Version 2.1 fixes this.
:You will now be able to enter Control-@ as a printer code 9
7when defining a custom printer. (Yes, patches exist to :
8correct this, but how many of you have installed it, or ?
=remember how to get hold of it if you haven't?) You can now ?
=correctly print page numbers greater than 256 (all you novel ;
writers, take notice) which version 2.0 could not handle.
9Spreadsheet users rejoice. The new version 2.1 now uses 4
2"intelligent recalculation." The spreadsheet now ;
9recalculates a cell
if the value in that cell was (
affected since the last recalculation.
<And, AppleWorks now supports up to 8 megabytes of RAM on an ;
9Apple IIgs. Until now, users had to purchase third-ware >
<products to get AppleWorks to allocate more than 1 megabyte >
<of RAM for the AppleWorks desktop. Not many will need more 7
than a 1 megabyte desktop, but if you do, here it is.
=Are there any shortcomings? Not with AppleWorks v. 2.1 that 7
5are known yet, but some enhancements will have to be ;
9updated. The Applied Engineering AW 2 Expander will now =
;have to be version 3.0 or later to work with AppleWorks v. ?
=2.1. Likewise the Beagle Bros. Time-Out series will need to ?
=be updated. You will have to use version 2.0 of the TimeOut 9
7program (you see this number when you start Appleworks 9
7enhanced with the Time-Out series) with version 2.1 of 7
5AppleWorks. Version 2.0 of UltraMacros, SideSpread, ;
9FileMaster, Graph, and MacroTools will need to be used. ?
=Versions of QuickSpell, SuperFonts, and DeskTools I prior to ;
9version 2.0 may not work properly. So far, Pinpoint has ?
=found no incompatibilities between AppleWorks v. 2.1 and its
integrated desk accessories.
:What about Apple users who don't have AppleWorks? If you <
:are an old AppleWriter user, there is a way to upgrade to :
8AppleWorks. Claris Corporation is offering AppleWriter ;
9owners an opportunity to upgrade to AppleWorks 2.0 (yes, 9
72.0, but you will be sent 2.1 automatically when it is >
<available) from AppleWriter for $75. For information, call ?
=Claris at 1-800-544-8554 and request the AppleWriter Upgrade -
Kit. The offer expires September 30, 1988.
